Gundam Wing is the second alternate-universe of Gundam to have spawned from the original Universal Century Saga, following in the wake of "G Gundam" and followed up by "Gundam X". With its techno-fetishism, underlying philosophical meanings and the traditional Earth-verses-Colonies conflict, Gundam Wing has no doubt become one of the most loved Gundam Series of all time. Directed by Ikeda Masashi and airing its 49 episodes from April 1995 to March 1996, it has become the only alternate Gundam world to have received such popularity that it has created its own sequels.
Featuring five gorgeous teen-heroes and their exploits on the battlefield and off, Gundam Wing veers from the traditional scene to cover the ever-popular "Pretty-boys-in-armor" genre followed by so many in series such as Slam Dunk, Yuu Yuu Hakusho and Fushigi Yuugi. The angst-ridden lives of Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner and Chang Wufei, however, are a far cry from the normal expectations. The series see them go through stages of depression, madness, self-hatred, trauma, determination, hope and the ever-amusing self-destruction, that one cannot help but realize the horrifying experience that is War. A story of hatred and love for the millions affected, of tearstains and bloodshed, of determination and duty, of betrayal and dominance, and the warring sides of War that is peace and conflict. This is what makes Gundam Wing so unforgettable.
